There were both adults and immature birds feeding on both nectar and lerps. They dispersed around midday but when we returned late afternoon there were at least 20 birds counted. Good to see that they are still breeding here.
The Lewin's Rail is another addition for the Shanes Park bird list. It is worth noting that many of the Eucalypt species mostly Eucalyptus moluccana and Eucalyptus tereticornis are budding and ready for a mass flower within the next week or so. Thanks to Jenny Stiles for the tip-off after I missed it yesterday! The owl called for the whole 15 minutes I was there. Max Breckenridge arrived a few hours later and it was still present.
Glossy Black-Cockatoo presence was indicated by shredded casurina seeds, and an early returning? Shining Bronze-Cuckoo heard calling. Quite a good of species for Winter.
Powerful Owl 1 sitting in Pittosporum undulatum. No of Noisy Pitta at the little waterfall in Irrawong at 8am this morning.

I have seem them at the same location back in when I was also chasing someone's sighting of a Hooded Robin a bird that has just about disappeared from the Sydney region. An early returning migrant or a bird that i over-wintered. There has been been sightings here long ago and this is the only Campbell River male seeks location I african grey breeders in castlereagh seen them in the Sydney region the other place I breedres seen them is Shanes Park near Blacktown.
I saw at least 8 Swifties beside Cut Hill Rd but the exact was hard to ascertain afican they were quite scattered and hard to see. Some of the Swifties were perched quite low down in the African Casstlereagh about 2 metres above the ground presumably to get away from the aggressive Bell Miners which I saw chase the Swift Parrots. Fuscous Honeyeaters were also present — as was a single White-bellied Cuckoo-shrike.

Several poor photos obtained. Swift Parrot 10 Probably more as the birds were high in the trees and hard to spot. Walk across the reserve on the Dillwynia West track and then turn right along the southern boundary on the Dafa trail.
The parrots were a couple yrey hundred metres along this track. Also saw a male Golden Whistler. Both at the eastern end of the Western Track, near Illoura Reserve. Light morph. Not a place I've had them before. Prions are known as Whale Birds and these Prions were feeding in the oliy water left behind by the Whales.
Australasian Gannets and one White-bellied Sea-eagle the only other other birds present. Nesting Castlerragh Ibis very rare on the northern rivers. All nests in low dead shrubs.
Most nests only cms above the water. Some calling, but fairly inconspicuous while feeding in the canopy. Grej Winter and Crested Shrike-Tits also present. An adult Black-necked Stork was standing on its nest. This pair of Storks lost their two nestlings recently. I've never seen five together before. It made a few brief visits yesterday and was easily castlereaagh. It has been photographed a of times and the attached photo was taken in the backyard in May. There appears to be only one bird and it is a long way east of its usual range.
There are scattered observations of this species in the Sydney area.

I saw one in February in Leichhardt, another castlreeagh was seen in February in Chatswood. Also seen late in the afternoon, near the small waterfall, the Noisy Pitta. Bird was calling repeatedly and exhibited "jerky" wing movements. Was eventually chased off by Australian Ravens. It is likely the Masked Owls have fledged a single young this year.

Quite probably an aviary escapee but I cannot confirm that unless someone knows of a recent escape. That's why I decided to publish this post but not to index it for the bird atlas.
